Rich Mullins: Live at the Bronco Bowl
Recorded live by Rick Starr on March 14, 1992
We are honored to share a truly historic entry in our Ragamuffin Archive: Classics series: Rich Mullins, live at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas, Texas, recorded on March 14, 1992.
This extraordinary concert captures a pivotal moment in Rich’s career and in the formation of what would soon become the legendary Ragamuffin Band. On this night, four future Ragamuffins shared the stage in one form or another—Rick Elias opened the show with Mark Robertson on bass, while Rich Mullins was joined during his set by Jimmy Abegg. It was also the very night that Rich and Mark Robertson met for the first time. The chemistry and shared spirit onstage laid the early foundation for the music and friendships that would define A Ragamuffin Band in the years ahead.
The recording was captured on cassette by Rick Starr, a longtime fan and supporter, who generously contributed it to the Ragamuffin Archive. It was later digitized by Andrew Montonera. We’re incredibly grateful to both Rick and Andrew for helping preserve and share this important piece of Rich’s musical legacy.
Though Rick Elias’ opening set wasn’t recorded, he, Mark Robertson, and Jimmy Abegg would later reflect on this concert during a special episode of Aaron Smith’s Intersect podcast for the 20th anniversary of Rich’s passing. Their memories added even more depth and warmth to this milestone moment.
